Repeating transactions
Guides
Enter your rent, salary and subscriptions once, and Balanced repeats them for you. Here's how to set up a repeat, change it and end it.
A repeating transaction is an ordinary transaction with a schedule. Balanced creates its future occurrences ahead of time, so you see this month’s bills before they’re due and can budget for them.
Set up a repeat
Section titled “Set up a repeat”- In the transaction editor, turn on Repeat. The transaction’s Date is the first occurrence.
- Frequency: Daily, Weekly, Monthly or Yearly. A new repeat is set to Monthly.
- End repeat: Never, on a date you pick (After date), or after a number of repetitions (After recurrence).
- Repetitions: how many more times it happens after the first, up to 50. With 11, a monthly payment runs for a year.
Then save. A rent of €850 on the 1st, repeated monthly, looks the same every month:
- Expenses:Rent
- +850.00
- Assets:Checking
- −850.00
- Balanced
- 0.00 ✓
Where repeats show up
Section titled “Where repeats show up”Balanced creates the occurrences up to the end of next month. More follow as time goes on. Each occurrence is a transaction of its own in your lists, marked with ↻. Those dated after today appear dimmed and count as planned spending in your budget.
In the overview, Repeated lists all occurrences of all your repeating transactions, by month.
You clear each occurrence separately, when it shows up on your bank statement.
Change a repeating transaction
Section titled “Change a repeating transaction”Tap an occurrence, make your change and save. Balanced asks You made changes to a repeated transaction and lets you choose:
- Only this transaction: for example, this month’s electricity bill was higher. The other occurrences stay as they are.
- This and future transactions: for example, your rent goes up from this month on. Earlier occurrences keep the old amount.
- All transactions: every occurrence changes, the earlier ones too.
Which choices you get depends on the occurrence and on what you changed:
| You change | In the first occurrence | In a later occurrence |
|---|---|---|
| Date, note, accounts or amounts | Only this transaction, All transactions | All three |
| Frequency or End repeat, or you turn off Repeat | No question: it applies to all | This and future transactions, All transactions |
End a repeat
Section titled “End a repeat”- From a certain occurrence on: swipe left on the first occurrence you no longer want, tap Delete, and choose This and future transactions. Earlier occurrences stay.
- Completely: swipe left on any occurrence, tap Delete, and choose All transactions.
- Skip one: delete just that occurrence with Only this transaction.
Before it deletes anything, Balanced asks Do you want to delete only the selected transaction or multiple occurrences? For the first occurrence, you get Only this transaction and All transactions.
You can also turn off Repeat in an occurrence and save with This and future transactions. That occurrence stays and becomes the last one.
